Introduction to Reusi Dat Ton - Practitioner Self-Care and Thai Massage

Our live 40 hour course is an anatomical investigation of the body from the cultural perspective of Thai medicine, and includes self care for practitioners and Thai massage techniques for proper alignment during stretches, strengthening muscles and increasing range of motion.

Reusi Dat Ton was born out of North India, Sri Lanka, South East Asia and Thailand’s  ascetic practices and is an investigation, stimulation, and relaxation of the muscles, nerves, blood and tissue. Following tradition as closely as possible, we will practice the chanting, breathing techniques, massage, stretches, meditations, and daily habits of practitioners of this style of Buddhist medicine. These techniques allow for healthy adjustments to digestion, breathing, mental states, and help to strengthen and open flexibility of the self and the client.

For those studying Thai massage, RDT is the origin of the massage practice, and through studying it we are able to better understand the proper application of pressure, the layers of the anatomy, safe alignment during stretches, how to open mobility in the joints, and will be able to better assign aftercare… all from the Thai perspective. With this understanding, our massage effectiveness becomes clearer, our use of Thai massage more appropriate, and our bodies more conducive to continue working into old age.

Thai Massage- Reusi Stretches

Our two day, 16 hour Thai Massage stretching course offers over a dozen stretching postures to effectively relieve pain in the body. The technique of Reusi stretches involves a sustained posture held for an effective period of time allowing nerves to calm, muscular tension to dissolve, and circulation to balance through the joint. These slow moving maneuvers were established over centuries from a long line of reusis, Thailand’s traditional doctors. From these teachings, students will learn proper alignment during stretches, proper breathing and proper aftercare for their clients. In addition, lectures will be given on Thai medicine history, lineage, and traditional self-care practices.

Thai Abdominal Massage

This Thai massage course is a 32 hour investigation into effective release methods, focusing specifically on the abdomen. Taking care to reset the body's core, we will rejuvenate the low back, spine and abdomen through identifying and manually addressing each layer of the abdomen. Students will learn a traditional Thai homage to the teachers, the components of the elements as they relate to anatomy, will chart the abdominal cavity, and learn the five roots of Thai medicine. Abdominal massage ends with a short series of gentle stretches, which relax the smaller muscular connections around major joints creating relief in the distal body as well as long lasting relaxation.  The purpose of this course is to address tension in body's core, provide aid to the postpartum body, relief to the low back, balance to the digestive and nervous system, as well as addressing ailment in the hips and legs.

Modifications for
Addressing Ailment

Modifications is the second half of our Thai Massage Essentials.  This 40 hour intensive is designed to teach practitioners effective ways of addressing the ailments of their clients using the Thai medicine theory. Using information from the Essentials course we will turn our focus to the body layers theory, advance stretching maneuvers, body walking technique, side laying massage, and introduce the abdominal release technique.

With these methods, students will work more effectively while also exerting less energy by slowing their practice down and precisely targeting ailment.
